Oops! I accepted the invitation and was interviewed by a Finnish television crew for the A-Studio: Huolestuttaako kännykän säteily? (Program title: Are you worried about health risks of mobile phones?). The recording of this show is available on YouTube. Discussion about the show can be found here and here.
In overall, I am pleased with the show. Not even my dull presence was enough to spoil the event (a joke ;-) Thanks to Petteri Sarvamaa, Antti Tuominen & Co in YLE Finnish television for making this historical event.
Other interviewed guests in that show:
- Professor Dariusz Leszczynki , the Finnish Radiation and Safety Authority (STUK). The world's best expert in proteomics. His latest paper about protein changes in human skin after microwave exposure is worth reading as well as his older paper about blood-brain barrier related effects.
- Professor Osmo Hänninen, University of Kuopio. The expert behind the book "Matkapuhelinteknologia - Mitkä ovat terveysriskit?" - PDF (Translation: Mobile phone technology - What are the health risks".
- Professor Kari Jokela, the Finnish Radiation and Safety Authority (STUK)
A little wish for my Finnish readers: Please, sign the Pro_Lankaverkko (Pro Fiber)-initiative. Please, support the base station initiative of MP Heidi Hautala by contacting your closest MP (kansanedustaja). Internationally, the BioInitiative petition is not a bad choice to sign, either.
I participated this TV show to advance discussion about risks. I feel that children deserve a safer environment to grow up with less radiation exposure.
Now I will take a break from EMF topics. To avoid one track mind and keep my blog postings more versatile ;-)

Hi Mikko,
Congratulations for the TV show. I will try to look at it now in August. Even that I had been following your blog, this time has been extremely busy time on my side, then no chance to post anything (not even of my own work).
From reading your last posts I hope even with all these “resent” focus of research interest of yours, you still give yourself time to enjoy and live this life.
Definitely this worry is not new. If my memory is accurate, at least from my home since mobile phones and micro-ovens start to have a mass presence, people argue about the healthy impact of these devices. I believe no-one has a clear idea of the impact that all the “modern technology” has over life forms. We have no idea how we are mutating with the huge amount of waves and radiation that cross our bodies from radio, satellites, artificial light, phones, etc. etc. etc. And what about the food? How much food is produce “naturally” and how much under “technological” conditions.
Also have you been thinking that even that your concern is from develop countries perspective, developing countries have the same radiation problems without them asking for it. Maybe they don't even have all the benefits of it, however the human mutation in their newborn is already present.
Imaginable amount of things are happening along this planet, which we have no idea, originated by human beings . Human race is “playing” with the life, thinking that our race is the “boss” of the life. However is a boss pro-life or against-life? .
From my perspective, after be worry for a long time I understood that life is wiser than humans. We are a plague in this planet. Perhaps if we would listen more to historians and biologists, we could try to act more wisely than now, and try to harmonize ourselves with the life itself, instead to seek (unconscious) for our own self-destruction. But time will tell.
My concern nowadays is not only what type of world we leave to our kids or our future generations, but what type of kids we leave to our world as well. Our planet needs help. I think we should learn to live in harmony between humans and between nature, and that implies not believe we are “gods” or technology is a “god”. Humans should balance with life, starting by enjoying life in its natural form. At least that is mho ;) sorry for the length and bad english of these lines, and hopefully you can enjoy the "warm-winter" or the Finnish summer ;) with your family!

Hi Carolina
Don't worry, I still can enjoy life :-)
As you nicely pointed out, EMF-risks are only part of the global risk scenario. The common nominator is that human beings are altering nature and natural laws too fast. I like the following story of Joris Everaert:

BTW, There is interesting stuff happening in this EMF-health scene:

I'll be there :-) A glimpse of hope?!
Take care
Mikko
P.S. This summer has been ... cool like the previous one. I don't mind, I am already looking for the ice swimming season ;-)
